General Ambiance

Some will recall the song of Yves Montant : “I like to stroll along the grand boulevards” which celebrates the vivaciousness of these long arterial Parisian roads. And it’s true that—just a few steps from Hotel Jules—a light and festive atmosphere reigns. The cinemas and cafés lined up and down the boulevards are really something, as are the confectioners and ice cream shops. These Grand Boulevards change names as you move along: the boulevard Poissonnière becomes the boulevard Montmartre beside which is the boulevard des Italiens, and even further, the boulevard des Capucines…up until la Madeleine. Lovely to stroll along. The businesses close at 17h and clear the way for a colourful and mixed crowd, invading cafés and lengthening cinema queues until late at night, before finally giving way to the clubbers out for a night on the town.

Chez Chartier

A great location to get a feel for the popular and festive Paris Paname is Chez Chartier. This legendary Parisian brasserie, discreetly located in the heart of the rue du Faubourg Montmartre, has seen many characters pass through since 1896, and has no doubt heard conversations from all over the globe, of all topics and categories. It is a timeless brasserie, liked simply for that reason, offering French cuisine and “franchouillarde” how you like it. A brasserie in whose essence oozes the ambiance of a vibrant Paris—and a laid-back place to “break the bread” generously. Chez Chartier – 7 rue du Faubourg Montmartre – 75009 Paris

Le Palace

A legendary location of nightlife, le Palace has had many lives and functions. First opened as a music hall, the venue, situated on rue de Faubourg Montmartre, just a few paces from Hotel Jules, was succeeded as a cinema, then a theatre before in the 80s becoming a sanctuary of the nightgoers. Le Palace has become the most popular club in the capital, among the likes of Studio 54 in New York during the era of the disco. Reopened recently in 2008 after some long years of silence, Le Palace has now returned to one of its first vocations: the theatre. A wizened allure—and not a few scandals to it’s credit, as well as an eclectic and rich programming make this a must. Le Palace – 8 rue du faubourg Montmartre – 75009 Paris
