General Ambiance

In close proximity to Hotel Jules, the rue des Martyrs is without a doubt one of the most likeable Parisian attractions. Lively and animated by a stream of boutiques and traders, it stretches like a long ribbon. The atmosphere in the quarter is vibrant, almost festive. Stop here to sample a glass of wine, munch on some fruit while taking a long stroll to the place des Abbesses, or stop to eat some dinner. Or, turn right and let the pretty courtyard of trees and plaques of celebrated artists mounted on the walls lure you in. On leaving, you will notice a boutique posing as a gallery—and may possibly be called to by the boisterous crowd on the terrace of the bar. Première Pression Situated at 9 rue des Martyrs—very close to Hotel Jules, it is a simple and happy boutique with an air of summer and the scent of olive oil. The boutique only sells oils from the first press—take in the small, colourful cans organized like cosmetics, with 23 producers and many more flavours. A restaurant/bar you’ll want to try

Le Rouge et le Verre Leave the hotel, turn right, go up a little and find yourself on the rue Maubeuge and its charming bistro/wine cellar : “Les Domaines qui Montent.” First off, you’ll love the rustic wooden decoration resembling wine cellars and quality bistros. Then next thing you will notice is the sincere welcome and friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. And last but not least, the wines. To savour the flavour of all of France, the place makes simple and tasty side dishes to accompany your wine. The bottles are priced the same whether you stay there or decide to takeaway. Going for a little stroll at the end of the afternoon in the area surrounding Hotel Jules, you find yourself all of a sudden melting for this boutique that is fresh as sorbet, pretty as a macaroon, and as light as whipped cream: the patisserie boulangerie Arnaud Delmontel. It must be said that everything is made to please: pay special attention to the boulangerie, created by the founders of l’Elysée, as well as to the ultra savoury and creative patisserie.
